The Message does not contain recipients (list of users), who need to receive this notification neither the final output that is displayed from the tokenized output.
We use the Activity entity to store this information.
This may seem like a lot of modules, however most sites that I work on these days the above modules are already installed.
The first piece of work we need to do is configure the message type and attach a field to this new message type.
First it is good to understand the main concepts of a Message and Activity entity and how they are related to each other.
The Message entity is created when an event is triggered (e.g. It’s being build from a Message template that contains tokenized text.
If you add a task or open it, then it’s nice if your underlaying list (calendar, task list, or board) is not lost.
Handy: if you are navigating in a group, then that group is automatically selected.
Message types are entities, so you can attach any type of field to an entity the same way as with content types. Go to Structure - “Message types” (admin/structure/messages).
Click on the “Add message type” link and enter in “Log new content” as the Description and enter in some placeholder text into the message text field.
Imagine you are creating an activity stream for your site.
You'd like to use Views because it gives you all the power you need to query items and style them on the page - all in time for your 11am nap.
